This song came from the Kilauea Lighthouse on Kauai. The day I went there with Peggy, there was a pretty strong wind blowing. The birds that live in the ground nests near the lighthouse were having a party with it! They were up in the gusts and cross-currents of air, swooping and swaying and doing everything but turning somersaults.
I watched one group of three gulls for a long time. They had so much fun on the wind! Like children on a swing set. I could hear their music in my heart, and I went home holding it carefully and gently, like a fallen bird's nest with the eggs intact, to hatch it on my guitar at home.
