Yesterday I was hard at work when I began to hear a piece of music in my head. I wrote it out as a quintet -- two flutes, bass viol, contrabass and piano. As I entered it into a computer interface, I heard words in the music. I wrote them down too. The music will be made available when I have finished polishing it. Here are the words. I am sorry the computer will only show them double-spaced -my blog software skips a line after every hard return, so it apparently thinks each line of a poem is a new paragraph.
Jesus Loves Me, Yes I Know (based on “The Vision of Enoch,” in Szekely’s The Gospel of the Essenes)
Jesus loves me, yes I know,
He loves me when He speaks to me,
Loves me when my hopes are low,
Bringing what I seek to me.
Jesus loves me, so I know
He will not abandon me,
Walk beside me where I go,
Whatever distance calls to me.
Travel far, adventurous heart,
Until the sun I chase is setting slowly,
Then return to who I was;
Christ is still there waiting for me –
Christ is still waiting for me.
I spoke to you when you were born, my son;
Be still, and know that I am God.
I speak to you in stars;
I am God.
I spoke to you in your first play,
Be still, and know that I am God –
And your fulfillment was My pay.
Be still, and know that I am God.
I spoke to you when you were wed,
And godly was the life you led.
Be still, be still, be still, know I am God.
I spoke to you when your house fell,
I gave you Mine to live in well,
Be still, be still, and know the house of God.
I spoke to you when you were lost,
And you were lost no more –
Be still, be still my child, know I am God.
I spoke to you when you were sad,
And sadness left your door.
Be still, be still, be still, be still, my child – know I am God.
Jesus loves me, yes I know,
He loves me when He speaks to me,
Loves me when my hopes are low,
Bringing what I seek to me.
Jesus loves me, so I know
He will not abandon me,
Walk beside me where I go,
Whatever distance calls to me.
Travel far, adventurous heart,
Until the sun I chase is setting slowly,
Then return to who I was;
Christ is still there waiting for me –
Christ is still waiting for me.
